Your best interests are the priority of everyone who works with us
In a modern world of big business and corporate companies it is sometimes difficult to maintain the personal touch and give the service that was once expected from everyone. Wakefield Funeral Services try to preserve that standard that was set by our predecessors. To that end, our staff are all local residents who know the local traditions and are familiar with the Wakefield, West Yorkshire Churches and Clergy. It helps us to help you when you are arranging a funeral service for someone special and who is dear to you.
Meet the team
Barry has worked in the funeral industry for 28 years, having been brought up with the profession with his dad being a funeral director since 1954. He says “Going to work with him as a young lad brought me close to the profession and helped me in choosing this career. Completing my Dip FD then went onto doing a Certificate in Funeral Practices in 2001. Following on from that I went around the country and taught within the funeral profession.”
Barry says he most enjoys “helping people at a time when they need you the most. Guiding them through all the legal paperwork and also giving guidance on Probate and helping them make the right choices for their loved ones.”
He loves music and has played with brass bands since the age of 7-years-old, playing with Grimethorpe and quite a few others. His passion now is hill walking through dales. Completing the three peakes, Striding Edge in the Lake District and Glencoe in Scotland.
Joan has been at Wakefield Funeral Services for 25 years, having previously worked in a local light industry company for a few years and then at a call centre for BSB TV near Leeds.
Joan says “Each day can be different but the aim is still the same, to give as much support and guidance to families as I can and help them when they feel out of their depth so that they are satisfied they have done their best for their loved one.”
She enjoys cooking, reading, drawing and looking after her garden.
